Bangladeshi family arrested near Phulbari border for living in India with forged Aadhaar and passport

A Bangladeshi family allegedly living illegally in India using forged documents has been arrested near the Phulbari border in Siliguri. Acting on a tip-off, police from New Jalpaiguri Police Station carried out a raid and detained a man, his wife and their minor daughter. The arrested individuals have been identified as Azam Ali and Rima Akhtar.

Police said the family had entered India in 2016 with valid travel documents for medical treatment. However, after their visa expired, they did not return to Bangladesh. Instead, they allegedly concealed their identities and obtained forged Aadhaar cards and Indian passports to continue living in the country. During the investigation, officials found that the family had been staying in Bengaluru and were even working at a private hospital using the fake documents. Their suspicious activities came to light after police received specific intelligence, following which an operation was launched to track and arrest them.

A case has been registered against the accused for illegal stay in India, unauthorized border crossing and forgery of government documents. Police said further investigation is underway to identify whether others were involved in helping the family obtain the forged identity papers.
